Bastion Circuit Designer 0.9.3-alpha: the flow animation follows the real current, and 32 new parts
2026-11-05Bastion Circuit Designer 0.9.3-alpha is out. The release brings the wire-flow animation in line with the solved current, grows the common parts library by 32 components, modules and boards, and fixes two model bugs.
Flow animation. The dots that run along a wire now follow the current the solver actually computed, instead of the order the wire was drawn in. A wire drawn right-to-left animates in the true direction, two wires meeting at a junction no longer run towards each other, and a dead-end stub with no current stays still.
Parts library. The common parts shelf grew by 32 entries: comparators (LM393) and an op-amp (LM324), regulators (AMS1117-3.3, LM7812, TL431), a fuse, an NTC thermistor, a varistor, a lamp, a transformer, a current shunt, an ACS712 Hall current sensor, an RGB LED, a 32.768 kHz watch crystal, a 16 MHz ceramic resonator, 74HC14 / 74HC4066 / CD4017 / ULN2003 logic and drivers, a WS2812B (NeoPixel) strip, and the modules and boards people actually wire up: an opto relay module, a ULN2003 stepper driver board, a BSS138 level shifter, LM2596 buck and MT3608 boost converters, a DS3231 RTC and BH1750 light, SHT31 air and INA219 current sensor breakouts, a microSD card breakout, and the RP2040 Zero and ATmega2560 Pro Mini boards. Every part is simulated where a model can be honest about the physics - the inspector's description says what each model does - and the CH32V003 is symbol-only and labelled as such. Existing symbols also gained models: the 555 timer, the relay (pull-in and dropout with its flyback path), the PC817 optocoupler, the motor and the 74HC595.
Model fixes. The 74HC595's clear pin (SRCLR) was modelled active-high where the datasheet says active-low, so a shift register with its clear pin tied high - the way a real circuit ties it - was held cleared and never shifted. The crystal's motional arm had its inductance and capacitance wired in parallel rather than in series, so the crystal never resonated; it is now the proper Butterworth-van Dyke equivalent - a series R-L-C branch in parallel with the case capacitance.
