Bastion Circuit Designer 0.9.2-alpha: deeper STM32 emulation, a cancellable cross-check, and the analysis windows

2026-11-05

Bastion Circuit Designer 0.9.2-alpha is out. The release collects a batch of emulation work, the new analysis windows, the expanded Academy lessons, and the workbench's part pictures and sounds.

Emulation. The STM32F103 model now runs CAN, the RTC and the backup domain, and the deep-sleep modes (SLEEP, STOP and STANDBY, with wake-up); the STM32F4 model gained DMA and flash programming. Two emulated chips on the same CAN bus talk to each other: wire their CAN pins together and the bus is part of the circuit.

Analysis. Noise, Fourier / THD and temperature sweeps share one window, each tab with its own Run button. In the Compare Solvers window, a running transient or AC cross-check can be stopped with Cancel (an operating point is a single solve and runs to completion, and the window says so).

Academy. The 58 lessons now carry long-form study material - worked examples, common mistakes, things to try and self-check questions - and cite only commercially reusable sources: the public-domain classics (Morgan's The Boy Electrician, Steinmetz, Maxwell, Faraday) and Kuphaldt's Lessons In Electric Circuits under the Design Science License.

Workbench. Every common part has a picture: hover a library card to see it, and the inspector shows the same picture for the selected component. Short synthesised blips mark a run's start and stop, a placed component, a completed wire, a failed action and verification results - and they can be switched off.

Downloads. Five packages, all 0.9.2-alpha: the Windows installer (setup.exe), and Linux x64 as .deb, .rpm, .tar.gz and .AppImage. Freeware. Every file and its SHA-256 is on the project page: https://bastion.sektor9.dev/projects/bastion-circuit-designer
